Cable to connect flatbed scanner to computer (parallel)
Does anyone know of an online supplier or retailer who stocks a 25 D-shaped
male pin to a 25 D-shaped female pin parallel port flatbed scanner cable at
a reasonable price? Used cable is acceptable. I have Googled and tried all
the usual suppliers such as Maplin but without success. Not eBay unless as a
very last resort.

I found this on google, http://www.cabling4less.co.uk/Manhattan_22.php
But eBay for me would be the first place to look.

Try CPC (www.cpc.co.uk); looks like the following are what you need:
CSLEAD109 (2m) 2.00 + VAT
CSLEAD106 (5m) 5.00 + VAT
If you order over 30.00 + VAT, then you get free postage. Not sure what
it is otherwise, as I also batch my orders to get over 30.00.

....I try to do this, but always seem to end up spening at least 100 (Last
order was over 300!!!)
Stuff is just too tempting in that catalogue!!

Is this it? If so, 4.66 plus carriage. If not, I am sure that they can
help.

Why as a last resort? eBay is great for little bits and pieces
because you don't have to make up a minimum order or pay exorbitant
delivery charges.

Especially as the new one arrived on my doorstep yesterday. (why it was
to hand!) I've already got my next order planned after a 5 minute
browse!

Thanks for all teh replies, brilliant help! Thanks to Rob Morley I have just
bought the cable from eBay - previous attempts to bid for items have been a
nightmare but this was a straightforward non-bidding transaction. I may use
eBay again!

My thought exactly, As I said in a previous post, it would be the FIRST
place I look.
But everyone is entitled to their opinions.

Re: Cable to connect flatbed scanner to computer (parallel)
The rule of thumb is generally, If something sounds too good to be true, it
is. And steer clear.
The best thing to do is study the auctions, look at feedback etc, see if
they mainly sell or buy, contact them and ask questions. I know it will
never be 100% but it is a lot better than some give it credit for.

A bit pricey for that cable. micom.co.uk do them for ~1.60.
Personally I think putting the money towards a USB scanner would be better.

Yep, 2.75 + 1 P&P is outrageously over priced!

Plus 2.97 P&P...

You must have money to burn if you would replace a scanner for the want
of less then a fiver's worth of cable.

1.74 plus VAT plus delivery - so that's 4.97 delivered from Micom,
3.75 delivered from eBay.

The shop was next to my work so postage wouldn't be an issue to me.
I bet a lot of local PC shops are similar prices.
Better to put the cash to a USB scanner anyway.

If there's a good local shop it's always worth trying, but if it
involves going out of your way then the cost mounts up - petrol and
parking costs can easily make it cheaper to buy online.

Why bother replacing a perfectly good scanner just because it's not
the latest technology? If it does what he needs it to then a new
cable is 4 well spent.
