Island Line   
No service on Island Line tonight, following posted on their web site:

"Due to Short notice staff sickness, the following alterations will 
apply to Island Line services today, 16th August 2005. 1749 Ryde Pier 
Head to Shanklin Train terminates at Ryde St John's. 1808 Ryde Pier Head 
to Shanklin Train terminates at Ryde St John's. All Trains between Ryde 
Pier Head and Shanklin, ALL SERVICES CANCELLED, COVERED BY A REPLACEMENT 
BUS SERVICE. All Trains between Shanklin and Ryde Pier Head , ALL 
SERVICES CANCELLED, COVERED BY A REPLACEMENT BUS SERVICE. Buses will 
replace the advertised timetable, calling at: Shanklin: Railway Station. 
Lake: Lake Road Bus Stops, both sides of the road. Sandown: Broadway Bus 
Stops at the junction with Station Avenue, outside Premier Stores, Both 
sides of the road. Brading: Bullring (towards Ryde) and "Wheatsheaf" Bus 
Stop (towards Shanklin). Ryde St John's: Main road outside "Railway" 
Public House. Ryde Esplanade: Bus Station. Island Line would like to 
offer their sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused."

No mention on National Rail site.

This suggests there's just one driver and one guard on duty in the
evenings, otherwise some services could have continued using the
remaining crew(s).

Reliably informed that a signalman has gone sick, another on leave and
they have to keep within Hidden regulations on working hours. No option
but to shut the line early.

If these regulations are so well Hidden, how would anyone know if they were

I've nothing to do with Island Line so can't comment. It was on their

Yes but the point of NATIONAL Rail Enquiries is to show all the
information in one place.
