OT: Amazon Crap
Just a byline to advise people that Amazon can be really crap sometimes.
I've ordered stuff for my friends birthday at the end of July. All were in
stock but I chose Supe Saver delivery, I wish I hadn't bothered. As of
today, they are still undespatched nearly three weeks later. Delivery
estimate still has a few days to go. For the sake of a few quid I wish I'd
gone into town and come back an hour later with all the items. I'll
seriously consider price against delivery times in future.

Sorry to follow my own post, but because of the delay I just cancelled an
item. Delivery estimate has now gone back even further! Let me get this
right, they haven't despatched or picked my order, not even looked at it,
and now it will take even longer!. Next time they can swivel.

Did you complain? I've complained a couple of times when their so called
First CLass Delivery has failed and got a full refund. Having said that I
don't usually have a problem unless the stuff I'm buying is out of stock.

If the item is not in stock (24 hours) or known to be in stock at one of
their suppliers (3-5 days) then the delivery estimate is based on the
estimate from the publishers (book) or suppliers (others).
Just like Amazon lied to you, the publishers/supplier lies to them and keeps
putting the dates back.

Re: Amazon Crap
Basic rule of any online ordering, is not to order unless its in stock, if
at all possible.
Just a fact of life, and once you realise this truth, you don't call Amazon
'liers' anymore than anyone else.
Incidentally, I just had a second hand book sent to me last week from
Amazon, only I ordered a brand new one.
They've replaced it now with a fresh one, but not before I had to piss about
with their returns process. They refunded me the return postage BTW.
Leaves a nasty taste in the mouth I must admit.

I concur, I'm not a fan either.
I ordered 2 books, both meant to be in stock and dispatched within 24 hours.
They turned up seperately, 2 days apart.
One came damaged with a huge folded chunk on the cover and a third of the
book, the outer packaging was perferctly in tact. In other words they sent
out damaged goods. I couldn't send it back until the other one turned up as
the returns page lumps both books together and will not let you seperate
them.
The book was totally useless, since all the references were to Amerian law
and American businesses.
Not a peep of that mentioned in the Amazon UK site.
It was like asking for a UK road map and finding it was of the USA.
WTF do they sell such crap without telling you.
Total waste of time.
Now I have to wait until they refund me my postage, half the price of the
sodding book to return it.
I wish I'd gone to town and looked in Waterstones.
FU amazon!
Never again

think it gives you the option to send it seperately, ive not had a problem

sometimes ording is all about timing, if you so happen to order it on a

Re: Amazon Crap
the first posting said he ordered more than one item, in the supersaver it
combines all the items together and post in one go hence the supersaver
term. if one item isnt available for 6 days, then the wholeparcel is held
up till its in stock
if he wanted certain items to arrive then he should not havce bundled it
into the supersaver. isnt the supersaver free postage anyway?

Perhaps they were stocked at different warehouses. If you'd paid for
first class delivery, you should have complained - it'd probably also
have been Royal Mail's fault if Amazon sent out the dispatch notes at
roughly the same time.

Never had that experience. You can certianly complain about a partial
order, as the web site lets you specify which line was damaged. In my
experience, Amazon have been fantastic - they sent me out a new copy fo
the damaged book same day I complained and asked me just to return the
original copy free post in the new set of packaging when the replacement
arrived.
>The book was totally useless, since all the references were to Amerian law

That's hardly their fault. If you buy a book on law published in the
USA, it'd be naive to expect it to be about UK law.
>Not a peep of that mentioned in the Amazon UK site.
>It was like asking for a UK road map and finding it was of the USA.
So, the title of the book had "UK law" in it, did it? Well, then send it
back as no-as-described.
>WTF do they sell such crap without telling you.
Oh, so you didn't ask to buy the book. Bad Amazon, you should be ashamed
of yourselves.

Oh, so in the name of good customer service, they've taken back your
book, possibly creased and unsaleable now, an even refunding your
postage as a good will gesture. How evil they must be.
>I wish I'd gone to town and looked in Waterstones.
Yes. Then you might have had some idea of the books you were ordering.
My experiences of ordering from Amazon UK and Amazon US have been
fantastic. In the one case of genuine error from the UK site, it was
swiftly dealt with, Amazon US are an absolute pleasure as the books are
often another 30%-50% lower than the UK price even inclduing
international shipping (I'm talking books that cost about 100 here), and
frequently arrive sooner than Amazon UK would quote as their supply
time. In one case, Amazon US dispatched a book from Amazon DE that
arrived 2 days after I ordered it!
On another occasion, the dustcover of an expensive book ($130) was
damaged slightly. I complained to Amazon, who offered to send out a new
one, although I pointed out that the shipping back to US and back to the
UK on a 4kg book would be a hassle (even thought they'd promised to
refund it), so they offered me a 10% goodwill gesture instead.

As if Im remotely interested in which friggin warehouse they come from.
Actually they sent one by Royal mail and the other by Parcelnet, but nice of
you to comment on something you knew nothing about.

It was shown as the number 8 selling book on Amazon UK, which might just
give a hint it would be useful to someone in the UK
The synopsis of the book never even mentioned law-
Youve no idea what the title of the book was called, yet still feel to be
in a position to comment. (becoming a trend now!)
One book was very uselfu, the other was totally useless.
They were actually from the same publisher.

Its FA to do with goodwill.
They sent it out damaged.
Theyve cost me time, inconvienience and money.
How long does a business deserve to stay afloat by dispatching damaged
goods?

Precisely my reason to pass on my experience of buying from Amazon.

Golly gosh a whole 2days!
That is juat soooooooooooooo unusual.

I have been using Amazon, both USA and UK, since 1998 and have bought
hundreds of items from them. Of these, one was faulty and the other was
misdescribed (software which didn't do what it claimed to do). The faulty
item was replaced immediately and the software was refunded. My satisfaction
level with the Company is 100%.

I was offering a possible reason why the books could have been shipped

Clearly, you just wanted to rant and stomp around in a public forum, so
I apologise for trying to be helpful.

OK. So, the book desription didn't mention law at all, and so it was
"totally useless" because references were made to US law, yet it
wouldn't have been totally useless if references were made to UK law?

It probably is useful to someone in the UK. Just not you.

Well, that says a lot, doesn't it. Imagine a publisher publishing books
on more than one subject or in one than one style or by more than one
author.

You still haven't mentioned the title, even though all your complaining
about my response is due to me not knowing the title.

Firstly, I suggest you look up sanctimonious. Then re-read my post and
your petulant response.
If you didn't want people to respond to your message, why did you even
bother posting it?
Or is it just that 99% of Amazon users are happy, and it's just not
fair, because you were unlucky on one occasion.

Right. Perhaps, you missed the point. If you choose a book, it's really
not their fault if you don't like it. Amazon recommends all manner of
music to my, most of which I probably won't like. I have the sense to do
my research and listen to a few tracks before I buy.

>They sent it out damaged.
Your post went straight from the book that you didn't like to having to
wait whilst they refund you the postage. If they refunded you for a book
in good condition just because you didn't like it, that's goodwill.
If it's damaged, then they are required by law to replace it, which they
are doing, if I understand you correctly.
>Theyve cost me time, inconvienience and money.
You said they are refunding your money. So really, it's just been a bit
inconvenient and wasted enough time for you to re-seal the package and
take it to the post office.
>How long does a business deserve to stay afloat by dispatching damaged
>goods?
If it's a one off accident, which they rectify quickly, then they
deserve to stay in business. If they are consistently bad, then
customers will not trust them, and so they won't last long. My
experience, and that of many other people, is that Amazon are good, and
they sort out mistakes quickly and efficiently.

Actually, that's good when buying from the States on 6-7 day delivery.

Thank you. I am indeed a happy customer, having bought lots of goods
from the web.

Sorry. One book, out of many ordered, had slight surface damage. They
would replace it no questions, or instead offer me a goodwill gesture
($13 for a lightly scuffed dustcover!). That's good service in my book.
>Thank you
>If I need to get more useless dumb comments from a sanctimoniuos prick,

Better that I use a valid e-mail address at all, instead of stomping
around anonymously, bad mouthing a company which is clearly doing its
best to make sure your damaged book is refunded in full, for allowing
you to buy a book you didn't really want or for hurling insults at
people who have actually had good experience of that company.

Ever heard of the phrase when in a hole stop digging.
Perhaps you could get a job at Amazon, you sound right for their customer
service.

Yep I've had good and bad service.
I've used them quite a bit - gave the benefit of the doubt on one order that
took nearly 2 months, way longer than their estimates.
Had other oders that take several days longer than they should, which I
wasn't bothered about.
However, this last episode was definately the last straw.
I buy a lot from the net, but in general terms regarding delivery times I've
found them well behind many other companies.
The small book sellers I've used for more specialist books have been superb,
one even despatches the book on ordering and before they get payment if you
need it desperately.

I started this thread annoyed at Amazon for keeping me waiting weeks to
despatch, then altering an order by removing one item set it back even
further even though the stuff hadn't been picked from the shelves. Now
towards the end of the delivery window they have emailed to say one of the
three items is still not in stock, despite all three being in stock when I
placed the order. Now they are saying 'at least 1 to 2 weeks'. This
completely cocks up presents for a friends birthday - I ordered in July for
an early September birthday. What a load of crap honestly. I'd think twice
about using them in future. My last delivery was thrown over our 8ft gates
to the back garden and left in the rain because you can never be sure when
something will arrive anyway.

Not always, I bundled some stuff to get free postage - and some of it came
almost immediately, the rest was 2 days later.

Yep.

I might take you seriously if you actually could mention the name of the
book you're unhappy about.
I've placed a very large number of orders with Amazon, including
electronic equipment. I've had perhaps 2 problems, both quickly resolved.
