Info please
I'm trying to trace a distant (in time and distance) relative whose last
known address was Wayside Station, Hodnet, Shropshire. There clearly isn't a
station at Hodnet now but can somebody out there supply any information ?
TIA,

Hodnet station was on the Great Western line from Market Drayton to
Wellington; it opened on October 16th 1867 and closed September 9th 1963.

Go to
http://www.old-maps.co.uk/
and type Hodnet into the search box and you might see something to
your advantage.
This is the GWR branch from Nantwich to Wellington via Market
Drayton. See the scanned plan at

It's a fair cop.

Thanks for the suggestion but I wonder if I'm missing something. The strange
thing about the address was "Wayside". I had found the (long disused)
station at Hodnet but nowhere any reference to Wayside Station.

AIUI "wayside station" means a small station by a road away from the
local village or town. Hodnet station was built in open country east of
the village, as can be seen on the old-maps site, or from a modern OS
map at http://tinyurl.com/9ocpc (Streetmap). Maybe it was known as
Wayside Station locally. There are currently Station House and Station
Villa on Station Road, Hodnet, Market Drayton, TF9 3JF in the postcode
directory.
