Barnetby.
Using my Senior Rail-Card, what would be the cheapest ticket I could
purchase ( day return ) from Doncaster to Barnetby. Cheers, Geoff.

Like with any ticket on this kind of route you go to Dmcaster ticket
office and buy a day return, it's a standrd fare..... you can buy on the
train but if it is TPE I think I am right saying your card will not be
valid.

Indeed; there doesn't seem to be an advantage in looking for tricks or
anomalies in this case.
I'd recommend starting off any kind of query like this by doing one's
own homework - I'd particularly recommend accessing the official
National Rail Enquiries information via the accessible front-end at
http://www.traintimes.org.uk/
This says that with a senior railcard the cheap day return is 7.45.
Only if dissatisfied with the answer is it usually worthwhile to set
the usenet group onto the problem: for example with journeys where no
CDR is available, the group may be able to advise that two CDRs can be
linked to get a cheaper total fare than would otherwise be available
(although with a bit of initiative, one can research that for oneself
too).

AIUI: if the station ticket office is in operation and you failed to
buy a ticket there, then any operator would be entitled to insist that
you paid the undiscounted full fare on the train, which it seems would
be 11.40 single. Selling you anything cheaper, such as a CDR, with
or without railcard discount, would be a concession. (In a penalty
fares area, the consequences could be more severe.)
