Cheap laser printer
Anyone seena decent laser printer going at a bargain price? I`ve had a
look for the samsung, but can`t find it for the nice cheap price. Ideally
looking to pay about 50-60, not for heavy use, maybe 1000-2000 pages a
year maximum.

Anyone got any suggestions for a decent printer?

Thanks!

PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE, do yourself a favour and DON'T get a cheap Samsung. We
got a ML-1520 for 60 for light office work and the built quality is
appalling. When ever the paper tray is disturbed (ie putting more paper in
the tray) the printer thinks there is a paper jam and it makes a terrible
thrashing of gears when it feeds paper. The built quality is cheap and
poorly designed although the print quality is good and lookalike refills for
the toner are 8 a time.

I nearly got one for myself at home and am so glad I didn't. Whether we've
been unlucky with the one at work, I don't know, but I do know it will be
going back to Currys before the warranty expires in March (probably well
before March the way it is going).

Our next laser printer will be an HP of some sort...

Re: Cheap laser printer
Staples (Basingstoke) had some of the Samsung lasers on clearance. Saw them
last week - think they were 50 with 3 years warranty.

Worth checking with your nearest store.

As in all things YMMV but I bought a cheap Samsung 1210 for 50 quid and
have been delighted - I think I have had one paper misfeed in c6000
sheets. A couple of times it has printed a little skewed (because I
didn't fill the paper bin properly) and in manual duplex mode I
sometimes get a slight toner smudge on the top edge but they are about
all I can fault it for.

Given the refill price and print quality I wouldn't hesitate buying
another.

I don't know if the 1520 is substantially different to the 1510 (apart from
using a different toner), but my 1510 has been completely reliable. Build
quality is as good as many far more expensive printers, I've had only one
paper jam (which was my own fault for trying to feed it heavily creased
paper) and I've never suffered any "thrashing" of gears.

You're missing out on a great little printer IMHO that's dirt cheap to run
with toner refills running at about 8.

I suspect you have been unlucky given how many people I know that have
bought these.

I'd take it back now personally.

BTW, to the OP, some Staples branches have stock of the 1510 or 1520 for
circa 39.

I'd second that. I've never had any serious problems with mine until I
retired it in favour of my Samsung colour printer.

I think you have a faulty one. My ML1510 has been excellent.

Thirded, based on my ML-1250 which is now about 3.5 years old, and has
done somewhere north of 2000 pages.

I'm not contradicting those who say their entry-level models may not be
suitable for office use, just that they're fine for SOHO use.

Best Regards,
Alex.

Errm, so you are using a 50 desktop/home laser in a office enviroment..
Did you really expect it to perform and take a beating like a 500 Office
laser printer???

For home use the ML-1510/1520 are perfect printers, cheap to buy, cheap to
run, and decent mono output, my only problem, is lack of 64bit XP
drivers...

Add some RAM to the printer and try that.

I believe that probably would cure it, but it's so little hassle (and
infrequent enough) that I haven't even looked to see what memory it
takes.

I have the same experience: the ML-1510 is a sweet printer and for
the 50 I paid, I wish I got too. I suspect that the other poster
got a lemon when he got his 1520.

I threw a random stick of 72 pin Fast-Page Mode (or was it EDO?) in, and
it seemed happy enough.
