The 2.8 VR6 uses twin simplex chains, and they have a nasty habit of
snapping around the 90-100k mark.

Alas VAG designed the VR6 with the chains at the flywheel end of the block,
which means the gearbox and engine have to be dropped out and split for the
chains to be changed.

Note that they usually do no rattle or give warning before they break, which
is not guarenteed, but if you do have that kind of mileage on the clock I'd
be saving up for impending failure.

The worse thing about it, is that the crank sprocket is integral and if its
warn, it means an extra 400quid for a new crank.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

You now know why 2.8 Galaxy's / Sharans are dirt cheap when they have 90+k
on the clock.
