Terrible, terrible, beyond belief, customer service.
Had a situation where a person ordered broadband, paid the entire yearly fee
upfront, but was so far from the exchange, needed BT to come and do some
work.
It took many hours, speaking to many indian call centres, to persuade them
that they needed to get BT out, eventually after several days of pestering,
BT came. BT where unable to get the line to provide Broadband, and Demon
refused to refund the money the person had paid upfront for the year.
Several weeks later, after written communication, the money was refunded,
but only after a lot of effort and complaining.
I wouldnt touch them with a bargepole, and actively discourage all that
suggest it.

BT's cock ups.

That will be the BT call Centre, not Demon's.
Never had a problem with them in ringing them or speaking to them but
Demon is all UK based in my experience anyway.
They are however, totally AWFUL at collecting their money from you.
They've just asked for the money they didn't take off me for 5 months
last year and that was on a DD.

I blame neither BT nor Demon for the none provision of broadband. It was to
far from the exchange, or the line was not good enough, simple as.
And, since the end user has no direct relationship with BT wholesale, it
aint BTs fault. The blame lies with Demon. It took huge amounts of
persuasion to explain to them that the line would not sync, and that it
wasnt the fault of the filter/usb modem/computer. I tried to explain that it
doesnt matter how many times you uninstall the tcp protocols, it wont have
an impact when the router is unable to sync. I explained the router was not
broken, neither was the provided usb modem which wouldnt sync either plus
all the other tedious crap that i understand they need to go through. What
really pissed me off, was once it was obvious they couldnt sort the problem,
they would tell me to phone back in an hour, where i would have to explain
the situation again.
Once again, i do not blame BT or Demon for the none provision of service, i
blame them for the absolutely terrible customer service.

Yes, plus net are good, but their usenet provision is very very bad (i dont
download binaries etc, just post and read text), I ended up coughing a few
pounds up for the individual.news seperate service.

Funny but nobody ever mentions Virgin. I have used them for
5 years and never had a problem. Started on PAYG then onto
24/7 and finally onto BB, as yet never had need to contact
them, so I don't know if they speak Hindustani, Cantonese or
Scottish, maybe I've just been lucky, but they will do for
me.

No you're right there is a limited Helpdesk function in India, I've done
some research, that said I've not spoken to them yet and I've been with
Demon for 2 1/2 years.
Why would you be speaking to BT? Well because when you get stuck between an
ISP and BT trying to sort out your line it is inevitable that you have to
pick the phone up to BT to try and get them to sort it out because the ISP
blame BT and say they can't do anything about it, which is where it all
starts going pearshaped.
No I don't think you are an idiot.... Indian Call Centre employees however
are a special kind of Idiot I have only experienced with BT.

I was doing this for my father about two months ago; I wanted something good
and idiot-proof (sorry, dad!); didn't mind paying extra; and www.plus.net
had good reviews and won the occasional award so I went with them. The
customer services have been very helpful, and the whole thing was completely
painless. I'd recommend them to anyone.

Identical to my experience with www.plus.net.
Plus - my brother went with them too. Last month I helped him set up
a wireless network but couldn't get a connection. At 10:30 at night I
was put through quickly to an excellent support engineer who sorted
out all the remaining problems with no bother. Sounded like he was
speaking from the UK, for what that's worth.

Must agree, over three years with them, they are in my mind one of the
leading ISP's in the country.
They are always in the top ten ISP speed tests each month usually
towards the top end. When the exchange is likely to be down they email
you. and if you need customer or tech support it's superb needed to use
them twice and both times BT where out the next day and problems where
sorted.
another very satisfied customer............
