Re: washing machine
The only way you're going to get anywhere near 30 years (and then
probably only half that) is with Miele - for between £500 and £1000.
Try www.pricerunner.co.uk.
Or you could get a basic Bosch (WFL2067GB) for £267 delivered - from
the Co-op too. Very good value at that price again, try pricerunner.
Not going to last as loong as the Miele, but the service costs will be
lower and you can buy 2 or 3 for the same money. Good reliable brand
according to Which too.

I just got the cheapest Miele washing machine model (Premier 500) and with
delivery it was 420, it also has 5 years free warranty. My personal
experience of Bosch is that they are no better reliability wise than the
other big brands now.
Currys is probably cheapest whatever model the OP chooses because you can
get 15% off, plus free delivery if you use the 'google10' discount code
combined with the linemypocket referral on their webpage.

Re: washing machine
Unfortunately most AEG washing machines are no longer "similar German
quality". Now that AEG is owned by the Electrolux group most of the
components are shared with lesser brands (Zanussi, Electrolux, Tricity
etc.) and manufactured a long way from Germany where labour is cheaper
and attention to detail may be less.
A Tricity Bendix 1400 spin washer could be over £100 cheaper than its
AEG equivalent and be all but identical inside, with the Zanussi
nuzzling between them price wise.
An AEG washer dryer (yeah yeah I know) I bought 2.5 years ago has had 2
faults since new and now needs a new main board costing nearly £200
with fitting!
Bosch is better, but check country of origin before parting with cash,
the lower end models are being manufactured in Spain with poorer
quality parts and reliability. The higher end and some of the end of
line models are still available with German manufacture.
However as others have said if you want reliability then Meile is
probably your best option.

Have you taken this up with the retailer you bought it from, as I wouldn't
have thoght at 2.5 years old, the machine has lasted "a resonable time" as
stipulated by trading standards!

My advice is that if you want a WM that will last do not go for
anything that has a digital board as it will be the first thing to go.
