film:geordie
I pressed the wrong button on my telly when attempting to watch the
World Athletics, and caught a brief glimpse of a fim called Geordie on
Ch4. It showed what purported to be Tilbury Riverside station, with an
ex LMS 4F on a train of crimson suburban coaches (I think). In the
background were some carmine/cream stock. It was a very short clip so I
never had the chance to take in any more detail, but it was in colour
and the tv details say the film was made in 1955. Does anyone know
anything about the railway content of this film? Was it really Tilbury,
or somewhere else in 'disguise'?

I wonder if there are any out-takes. It is not a film that I remember
from the John Huntley series.

If my memory serves me correctly "The Inn Of The 6th Happiness" is
another film that I would imagine might have needed some extra footage
to what is shown. The film starts at Liverpool Street station, and
shows the main-line arrival platforms head-on from the first floor
level. I wonder how much footage the camera actually recorded?

As I remember it, yes you are right, it was Tilbury Riverside.

Geordie was on his way to Australia to compete in the hammer at the
Olympic Games and was on the boat train which would have arrived from
St Pancras.

In the 50's, I remember most P&O and Orient liners had boat train
connections to and from St Pancras with LMS & Fowler 4F locos. I recall
the odd black 5 and at least more than once an Ivatt 4mt 2-6-0.

Tilbury Riverside (and, of course, the entire LTSR) was part of the LMSR
at Grouping, so it's not inconceivable.
