Boringdon Arms food "from a sachet"
I stayed in Turnchapel over the weekend a few doors from the Boringdon
Arms. It's a nice pub with lots of rooms, indoor and out and
interesting pictures on the walls. Good beer as well.
We ate there Saturday night and I unfortunately ordered a Thai curry
while my friends had more conventional pub meals like pie and
steak. I've never been served such a tiny portion except as a
starter. On complaining the nice bar lady suppled a welcome bowl of
chips but a chap (chef if we can call him that) came out from the
kitchen, didn't apologise but told me that the curry comes from a
sachet. So there you have it. Yes I was wrong to order that item but
expected a sensible portion and certainly not that excuse.

I was in the Borigdon Arms a few weeks ago. In my opinion, the pub has
gone well down the drain since Rob retired and the pub company got
their hands on it. What you write here doesn't surprise me.
I won't be going back there,. at least not by choice. It's no longer
worth the effort.
BTW - did you stay at no. 10?

Pretty much every pub in the Good Beer Guide serves a variety of keg beers,
RTDs etc which the average CAMRA member would consider utter crap.
Should we therefore condemn a pub because one or two meals on the menu are
not freshly-made?

No, not if the bought-in food is as good as home-made and served in an
acceptable sized portion. The pub in question will have heard of 'Caterfood
Southwest' at Paignton. They do a Thai green curry paste that will make a
fanstastic Thai Green Curry with the further addition of 2 onions and 10lbs
of diced chicken.

If you were happy about the other meals and the pub in general then you
shouldn't let it stop you going back but next time if you fancy curry, order
two lots - plus loads of bread and chips.
I am usually disappointed with pub food anyway except the ones that have a
separate dining area and a 'real' chef who can change the items of a dish if
required, I hate the packaged food, pre sliced frozen steaks, bakes that
are heated in a micro, and most of all I hate frozen chips.

I eat whatever I like whenever I like but I'm not fat. I did put on a bit
of weight last year but gave up drinking beer ( John Smiths) and now drink
shorts so my beer belly has gone down a bit :)

YUK nitro-keg! Normal keg ale dispensed with 70% nitrogen and 30% carbon
dioxide, forced through 5 tiny holes in the dispense tap to give the froth
on the top and little gas in the body (of the beer). Did it give you a wooly
head feeling in the morning? That's the nitrogen.

Hey leave the girl alone , Lis eats whatever she fancies and does not
succumb to snide remarks .

I don't understand your statement. How is nitrogen related to wooly
head feelings ? It's an effectively inert gas (and we breathe it in
80% mixture in the air). If that was the case, the act of breathing
would result in wooly head - but it doesn't.
I'd suspect that nitokegs are simply suffering from poor quality of
ingredients and suspect brewing process rather than any effect of
nitrogen (other than loss of acidity in the beer from the replaced
CO2, and loss of some volatile components)

I am sure Lis is more than capable of telling me where to get off if I
offend her ,without budding Sir Galahads poking their noses in.
