Standalone DVD Recorders
Hi
Which is the best deal on a DVD recorder.
I am unsure of which is best for all round recording off:-
  Sky / VCR / Camcorder(digital) / and playback
am unsure of choice JVC/Panasonic/Liteon/ comes to mind
any comments on above or on their choice & views all welcome.
And where from Net/Store ?

Thanks

Panasonic is the way to go, usually find multi-region versions being sold on
the net cheaper than instore region 2.

I had a Liteon and the picture and recording quality was poor - I swpaped to
a Panasonic and the quality difference is amazing - I can't fault it

I got a Lite-On LVW-5045, whilst the analog tuner is not that brilliant,
the RGB in and out gives a fantastic picture, better than anything at that
pricepoint, and even 100 more...

As you are connecting from Sky, it will be outputting RGB, whatever you
buy, make sure it supports RGB input, recording and passthru. (the LiteOn
does, but not too many other do..).

As you are connecting a camcoder, make sure it's got a DV/Firewire input
source also, and can control the camera via "DV device control". Again
the Lite-On does this...

Downsides for the Lite-On: Crappy remote control, poor analog tuner, no
DivX playback/recording
Goodpoints for the Lite-On: big space (160GB), lots of features, good
quality on RGB.

Re: Standalone DVD Recorders
Make sure you get something with a hard disk built in. It's a life-changing
thing!

I got the Philips HDRW720 about 8 months ago and it's been utterly
brilliant. It's got an EPG as well; which, while it's a bit limited in
numbers of channels, makes recording pretty much of a "point and click"
method.

Or Richer Sounds for 149.95 if you'd rather buy from the high street.

unless you've created an account?

Stop it! I'm really tempted to buy one. ;o)

Half of me thinks it would be better to go for one with a hard disk.
The other half says not to bother because there's never anything
decent in TV.
