Some people state that the Utility Warehouse:
http://www.telecomplus.co.uk
is the best place to go.
They won't show up on USwitch or the other switch websites because they
don't pay commission.
I use them at my house and use a different company at my parents house.
I can say that they are competitive, but no more than the best search result
using the switch websites above. They're about the same as the best rate on
the switch websites.
Where I think they differ is whilst you get the some of the best prices on
the various switching websites, a lot of those companies, whilst they can
undercut the main giants, they're customer service is rather poor.
TelecomPlus is very good at this, they answer the phone almost immediately.
However, a couple of things to bear in mind:
a) a lot of companies give a loyalty bonus if you've been with them for a
year, every year. TelecomPlus only give 10 for every utility in excess of
one that you get from them. Other companies are more generous.
b) you can get better joining bonuses with other companies.
c) you might get better dual-fuel deals elsewhere.

comparision sites not that good imo. They want to many variables.
Ideally i just want to know which provider charges the lowest unit.

Too many variables? I'd say gas and electric kwh are pretty much the
finest variables possible to work out utility bill costs. Going by the
lowest unit is false economy too(it reminds me of the "best electric
for £10" topics a few weeks back). Most operate tiered structures,
whereby the first 'x' units are one price and the remaining are a lower
price. If you are a very low user then the lowest tier 1 unit price is
best, if a high user a low tier2 unit price is generally best. Sites
such as www.energylinx.co.uk and www.ukpower.co.uk are comparison sites
but do also include sites such as utility warehouse as previous posters
have mentioned. Currently for Gas I think www.ebico.co.uk (who do a
single tier pricing structure) is unbeatable, but they are considering
price rise as of 1st September so bear it in mind.

EBICo have the lowest customer rating of all suppliers. Considering most
energy suppliers have poor customer services I would be concerned about
using the worst.

AFAIK Ebico's customer service's/administration and supply is run
completely on it's behalf by Scottish & Southern Group who have one of
the better ratings(dependent on location determines which of S&S's
companies will deal with you), all communication will be branded S&S
with only the tarriff name indicating you are with Ebico. Surprised by
the low ratings

Actually telecom plus do show up at uswitch providing
you deselect "Plans you can switch to online with uSwitch.com"
although they don't give out the contact details and plug an
alternative instead :-
"You could save 6.78 by switching your electricity supply to Telecom plus High User Option.
Why not choose a supplier with a better service rating?
uSwitch is not currently able to switch you to Telecom plus High User Option, but we recommend that you save 6.02 by switching to
npower Sign Online which offers an even better service rating of 73% compared to Telecom plus's rating of 70%."
