I am amazed when someone whizzes past me on with of these little-wheel
folding bikes, whilst I'm chugging along on my 21 gear MTB! Anyone seen any
going cheap?

If they are whizzing past then, they may well be one of these excellent 
cycles.   They aren't cheap though.
