Are there any updates as to progress recently after the tunnel collapse on
30 June ? Is Tesco's still online?

There is some new information on the Bucks Fee Press page today. ASLEF
issued a statement that their drivers would not go through the tunnel until
they too were satisfied it was safe.

There will be two pages added to my website in the next few days. One
will cover the work done in the last 4 weeks to make the railway safe,
The other covers the limited amount of work done towards completion of
the project.
It will not include guesses at when the line will reopen!

The Times have a picture taken from inside the tunnel:

Same picture appears in Railway Magazine this month. Not sure what
'within hours' means. I took some from the same vantage point at the
end of the Up patform on the afternoon of 2 July but not as
photographically successful and not published because I wanted to
protect the friend who took me in his hi-viz jacket to the location
past all the blue and white tapes. On 1 July the place was swarming
with police and not even the station staff were allowed in their own
work-place!
The Times used two of my pictures on Saturday 2 July in a collage
including an aerial view of the site.

Further to other posts: there's a useful (if badly punctuated) press
release from Network Rail (in MS Word format) on their website at
<http://www.networkrail.co.uk/>.
A recent issue of New Civil Engineer had an update too. For those who
can log into the NCE site, the URL is
<http://www.nceplus.co.uk/news/news_article?pid=1&aid=45710&sid=47&channelID=4&NewsComingFrom=civil_engineering>.
It says, amongst other things, that some of the remaining tunnel
segments are thought not to be structurally sound and that they are
being removed. "14 of the remaining segments had failed to behave as
expected, and had not deflected up when the fill was removed."
The ball is currently in NR's court. Their engineers are considering a
report from Tesco's contractor before deciding what to do next.

I suspect that the correct term is, "Oh s*&t".

I have always had a degree of respect for civil engineers. Working
in the rain has never appealed to me. I trust that they get
themselves sorted out reasonably soon and return the infrastructure
to what it is designed for, running trains.

I will always explain revoked keys, unless the UK government
prevents me by using the RIP Act 2000.

My source stated that certain things were in pending trays but finding
someone to sign them off was proving "difficult" - sounds of a great
deal of CYA syndrome going on........... :-)
I'm being deliberately vague to protect my source.

As I suggested a while ago, but was poo-poo'd, it's going to take a brave
person to sign what remains of the structure as safe.
