Waterloo - Bristol TM
Hi,
Does anyone know the times of South West Trains' London
Waterloo-Bristol Temple Meads service, to go through the whole NRES
website listings will take ages!
Also, is this service cheaper, compared with FGW's fares?

QJump gives the following fares for London to Bristol on the SWT
services (or changing at Salisbury to Wessex):
Apex Return (rte AP Salisbury): 16.00
Super Advance Return (rte AP Salisbury): 19.00
Cheap Day Return (rte Warmster/Salsbry): 23.90
Supersaver Return (rte Warmster/Salsbry): 29.00
1st Apex Return (rte AP Salisbury): 35.00
Saver Return (rte Warmster/Salsbry): 39.50
First Open Return (rte Warmster/Salsbry): 95.60
You'll notice that there's no Standard Open Return for the route, so I
would surmise that the Saver would be valid on all trains.
The fGW range comprises:
Apex Return (rte Great Westn Only): 20.00
Apex Return (rte AP Slough): 20.50
Super Advance Return (rte Great Westn Only): 30.00
Super Advance Return (rte AP Slough): 31.00
Supersaver Return (rte Any Permitted): 36.00
Saver Return (rte Any Permitted): 45.00
1st Apex Return (rte AP Slough): 45.10
Standard Open Return (rte Any Permitted): 103.00
Saver First Return (rte Any Permitted): 109.00
First Open Return (rte Any Permitted): 171.00

What would happen with a Priv then, I assume there is a Standard Day
Single?

I've managed to chop that fare because I'll be coming from Aylesbury
and Changing at Didcot.
Aylesbury - Bristol Temple Meads Standard Open Rtn (I *assume* via
London, Didcot, Reading or Bham is acceptable) is £122.
BUT
Aylesbury - Didcot Parkway Standard Day Single is £18.10 (same price
as London Padd - Didcot Parkway) and Didcot Parkway - Bristol Temple M
Standard Day Single is £16.90. Add it up, and multiply it by two to
get a return fare, which is £70, saving £52 off the peak hour fare!
So with my Priv (adult rates thank you!) Aylesbury - Didcot = £4.55
and Didcot - Bristol Temple M = £4.25. £8.80 x 2 is £17.60 vs
£30.50 for the Open Rtn.
Bargain! Saving myself £12.90!
And there's no chance of messing that up because I have to change at
Didcot, but if you're coming from London remember to get on a service
that stops at Didcot!

Re: Waterloo - Bristol TM
There's a superadvance single at £9.50. The standard single is a few
pence cheaper than a cheap day return IIRC
The superadvance tickets seem to have good availablility and only have
to be booked by 6pm the day before.
So yes it's cheaper - more importantly the cheap fares are more readily
available

Yup. Undiscounted SDS is 23.20 (rte Warmster/Salsbry), so presumably
you'd need to buy two singles as there's no SDR or SOS for the route in
question, which means you're stuffed if you want to do an overnight BoJ
in either direction...Methinks a query to SWT's Pricing Manager may be
in order.
Cheers,
Barry

Thanks very much to those who replied, but, seeing now long it takes,
I'd rather pay £3-ish extra for the saving in time of well over 1 Hr.

Indeed. This was 2 hours ten minutes Bath to Waterloo when first
introduced ...
