OT: Halo 2 Expansion Maps Pack / Downloadable
Anyone here know much about the Halo 2 Expansion Maps Pack?

http://www.bungie.net/News/TopStory.aspx?story=maptacular&p=

I believe you can either buy it or download a couple now with the rest
later. What I want to know is:
1) If you buy it now, does it just install the maps and then you put the
original Halo 2 disc in, i.e. if you know someone with a copy then you can
share it?
2) Is it possible to copy the disc and install it. Or is there copy
protection to stop you doing so unless you have a modded XBox?

Basically, I don't want to buy the expansion as they are giving it away free
anyway and I don't want to wait for it!!! ;0)

My mate has the map pack thing.
As far as i can remember the maps get installed onto the hard drive and you
dont need the disk to play them.

With Bungie implementing the new checks on Live players, I would put a fair
chance that a copied version of the disk will get you banned. Why not buy
it from eBay, install and then sell it again, or wait.

If the disk is an exact copy, and it is installs the stuff to the hard disk
is it going to matter?

I have no idea if what you say is possible but it would seem a bit of an
oversight if bungie had the means to detect the use of a *copied* disk, but
did not have some scheme to prevent the same original disk being installed
on any number of different xboxes.

Well the exact copied disk wont load without a chip, therefore it is not
technically the same install. For the sake of the cost of the maps, I would
not mess about loading info from the chipped side of the system to use on
live. You do not only loose your XBL account, you EPROM is banned from the
xbox.

and also the disk is not technically an "exact" copy otherwise it would not
be possible to tell the difference? I assume the data is copied exactly but
not the whole disk, i.e., the security measures that are put onto the disk
that DVD copiers cannot duplicate?

Fortunately I don't have a chipped xbox, live, or halo maps to worry about.

It doesn't have to be a copy. I mean, I can rent it from Blockbuster for 3
and install it.

I just want to know if this will work. I assume that it will.

Yes, it will work; My halo mad mate paid for the downloads AND bought the
disc when it came out. I just borrowed his disc and installed the maps
myself.
