Bodged bonded windscreen trim fitting suggestions
Hi,
I removed the trim from around the top of the windscreen (mk1 mr2) to
sort out a few rust spots had started to appear.
However, I now can get it to fit back in. Originally it appears that
the trim was (and still is) fitted with clips which located under the
windscreen. The windscreen has obviously been replaced (at least
once) and the sealant is very untidy, in places level to the top of
the windscreen. Clearly before I removed it the trim was basically
glued in with a variable degree of assistance from the plastic clips
(which is probably why the trim was never properly flush).
My thoughts are to try to dig out (how? could it be melted) enought
of the rubber stuff (in five pa#laces) that I can at least get the
clips in far enought that the trim lays flush and then use more
sealant to set the clips into the troughs. I can't seem to get the
stuff out from under the edge of the windscreen to creat a lip.
Alternative suggestion or suggestions as to what sealant to use
gratefully received.
Thanks
Jim
