66057 derailed Alrewas
Hi all
Rumours circulating the West Midlands tonight that 66057 has run away
from Blake Street, through Lichfield City and Lichfield Trent Valley
and derailed at Alrewas.
I am sure this is speculation, particularly after the incident at
Rhymney.
Anyone know more ?
Cheers

Yes I do.
RUNAWAY LIGHT LOCOMOTIVE : A class 66 locomotive stabled within a possession
at Blake Street on the Up line has run away, has passed Lichfield Trent
Valley High Level and en route towards Wichnor Jn. The loco has passed
through two worksites with no injuries reported and has smashed thru two
sets of level crossing gates.
Confirmed that locomotive involved is 66057 and which has become derailed
all wheels at Alrewas, where the double line becomes Single at that point
line continuing as the Single line, and the Up line (on which the loco was
running) physically ends. Loco also foul of the Down line.

I haven't seen any mention of this in the press, which is surprising as
for once a level crossing incident that the railway can be blamed for.
The crossings north of Lichfield did seem to be on the busy side, last
time I passed that way, so fortunate there was no accident.
Wonder what speed was reached?
Anyone know the gradients around Lichfield. It's not a route covered by
the Mainline Gradient Profiles (Ian Allen).
Come to think of it, it does feel like you go gently downhill for quite
a while approaching Lichfield City.

There's a short piece about it in the Times today.
