419 4 Rhymney!
Margam Depot have resurrected 419 and given it top priority for undergoing a
B1 xam to return it to traffic, following the accident with 408 and 425. The
exam was almost complete this afternoon and painters are working through the
night to complete the yellow ends for which, I understand one end has now
been inscribed with the black sheep. Some attention has been paid to the
burgundy paintwork which can now be best described as patch work. I
understand that 419 was clagging well and very noisy. 419 is due to undergo
ultrasonic inspection tomorrow and hopefully completion of its safety
certificate, followed by a test run on Tuesday, which may see it in action
on Tuesday night.

425 is due to go to Corus Port Talbot for its buffer beam to be straightened
shortly and 408 is going to Toton Depot by lowloader as some concern has
been shown that the drooping nose may conflict with its bogie on bends,
which has prevented it running light to Margam Depot.

37408 left Rhymney on a Heanors lorry just before 10.00 this morning 8/8.
Joined the M4 at Neath @11/50. Will then go via New Severn bridge, then M5.

Thought I saw (in the Distance) from Central that the replacement for 408 is
a 47?

Less than they'd have to pay Network Rail for track access through the
tunnel when the loco's mended. ;-)

And the replacement for 425? EWS still not decided as to whether Corus or
Toton Depot <g> will do the job.

Ultrasonic Tests were completed yesterday. However a seized parking brake
was identified at 2300 hrs last night and the "sausage shift" worked on it
till 0300hrs this morning. Due for a test run to canton Depot today.
