Dead Catalyst Symptons
What are the symptoms of a dead catayst. I am losing power at the top end
and there is a smell of burning . There is also a rattly noise at about 5000
revs.

Not so much a dead cat, more of one that is beginning to break up and block
the exhaust. Initial symptoms will be loss of power at wide throttle
openings, and a very hot exhaust system pre cat.

Drop the cat off at the downpipe and peer into it. You can remove the O2
sensor if convienient, and go for a quick road test, but invariably they are
seized and a nightmare.

Re: Dead Catalyst Symptons
The ceramic honeycomb affair inside the Cat had rotated and the exhaust
gases were being restricted.

Put a new Cat on and performance is back to normal.

Thanks for the advice.
