Maryport Blues festival.
Was anyone else there?

THERE IS A HOUSE IN NEW ORLEANS, THEY CALL THE RISING SUN, oh heaven.

Nope. I wish. This weekend is our Blues festival, I have to miss it as
well.

Think I'll put on a Blues cd.

Unfortunately, I am homebound for at least two weeks. (one down) Had a
small problem and had to have surgery.

Muddy Waters. I'm listening to John Lee Hooker right now.

To brighten your day
a Poem.

In days of old
When men were bold
And women weren't invented
They bored a hole
In a telegraph pole
And pumped away contented.

Oh. Bummer. Hope you're fighting fit again soon.

Oh yeah, great stuff. I cut my blues teeth on that pair. Also Sonny Terry &
Brownie McGee. I was listening to their albums when I was about 14 I think.
Ally my pals were into the Beatles. (Well, so was I, but not so
exclusively.)

Thanks. I'm already feeling much better. Should be back at work next
Monday.

Yup, all good. Buddy Guy, Big Joe Williams, Leadbelly, Memphis Slim,
Lightnin' Hopkins, Amos Milbourne, BB King and Robert Johnson are a few more
of the 'classic' blues guys that I have on cd. And of course I have some
newer stuff too.

I always liked it but I didn't start to really take an interest until my
early 20s. You must have been a very deep and soulful 14 year old.

sliding it your way! George Thorogood does a fair re-make of that song.
(one bourbon, one scotch, one beer) I think.

Dunno about that. I was just a fan of the Rolling Stones and decided to do
some background research into the sort of music that had influenced them,
which led me straight to the old American blues guys. You couldn't buy their
records in Scotland in those days of course. I somehow managed to track down
a company that sold 2nd-hand copies of old American vinyl records by mail
order, and saved up my pocket money for them.

Then, of course, there were my wonderful American pen-pals. I had several of
these, but the best was one Dotty Walther. (Where is she now, I wonder?) An
avid Beatles fan, she'd send me any LPs I wanted in exchange for any press
cuttings or magazines or just about anything I could find about her heroes.
I got all sorts of good stuff that way. All Bob Dylan's first few albums
came from Dotty, and I got into all sorts of stuff, like Marvyn Gaye, that
my school pals weren't aware of at the time.

I wonder if there's an offshoot of Friends Reunited somewhere called
something like 'Pen-Pals Reunited'? I'd love to find some of them. I think I
had about 19 scattered around the world at one time.
