Re: channel crossings
Speed Ferries are quick, once you are on board. We were delayed 3 hours
going out and 3.5 hours coming back. They parked us so close to the
other cars, we had to climb out the windows and we got a fair few
scratches down the side of the car from people squeezing by. The staff
were pretty worn out and unhappy, so not as helpful as they could have
been. (With one or two shining exceptions!) We were tired at the end of
the crossing instead of refreshed, so had added risk driving. When you
add up all these factors, then they cost more than you think.

I am all for the prices coming down. Well done Speed Ferries for doing
that! We had tried to travel with them last year, but they suspended
sailings for mechanical reasons. Unfortunately then didn't manage to
tell us. We thought after seeing the TV documentary that we would give
them another try. But we won't be travelling with them again. In future
we will pay a bit more and travel more comfortably and reliably. This
is just our experience and opinion. I am sure you will find many other
people who love them.

One thing I forgot to say, is that Boulogne is a very pretty and
vibrant town. If you do go by speed ferries, stop off and pay it a
visit. Nothing like Calais at all.. tons better.
