What is it about Diss that seems to jinx the GEML services?
The usual FTMMP ( First Thing Monday Morning Problem) is points/signal
failure at Diss.

It's the first sensible stopping point for a train in trouble (assuming it
can keep moving) in that it has facilities to contact the signaller, detrain
passengers safely, run an engine round or attach an assisting engine. The
last few miles (up line) into Diss are downhill so even with total power
loss the train could roll there.

There would be no point stopping anywhere in between, because an engine sent
to assist from Norwich would have to go all the way to Diss "wrong line"
before crossing over and coming back "wrong line" to give assistance from
the front.

It's also just past the first OHL neutral section, and this could cause a
DBSO with poor batteries to "deconfigure" when it momentarily loses power
from the train supply.

Or maybe some of the more suspicious locals have cursed the railway?

Even worse this evening. Fatality at Goodmayes, followed by a security alert
at Witham. 1900 Liverpool Street departed Ipswich 2208. 2000 still seemed to
be trapped between Chelmsford and Witham.
