The Duke was supposed to be hauling the Steam Dreams special to
Weymouth and suffered a steam pipe failure to the left cylinder close
to Southampton. She was rescued by a rather grubby (in comparison)
diesel and pulled, nearly two hours late in to Weymouth. I gather she
is being taken to Yeovil and 'allowed to cool down' before repairs can
start.
I gather three steam trains have failed in 4 days. Inevitably, in this
instance, delays to other trains resulted-one by an hour.
