Peterborough electrification
I don't have an opportunity to visit Peterborough in the next few weeks,
so I was hoping that other newsgroup subscribers might be able to answer
some questions for me.
The four running lines from the south are electrified throughout, as are
all the platforms and the two through lines. Heading north, the Up and
Down Fast and Up Slow are all electrified, as is the Down Slow/Stamford,
but not the Up Stamford (but see below).
But which other tracks are wired? In particular:
(1) From photos, the Goods line is wired at least opposite platform 5,
but how far south do the wires go towards the curve?
(2) Similarly, there are wires from platforms 4 and 5 so that trains
can get to the Nene sidings, but do they also continue along the
Up/Down March and, if so, how far?
(3) If I recall correctly, the Up Stamford isn't wired over most of
its length from Helpston to Peterborough. Are there wires at the
Peterborough end (beyond the crossover letting down trains from platform
4 reach the Down Slow) and, if so, how far do they go?
(4) Are there wires over the line from platform 2 to the loco shed? I
don't think so, but you never know.
(5) At New England North, I expect that the crossovers are all wired
and so are the Arrival and Departure lines towards Eastfield. Is this
right? What about the ECD ISU?
Thanks in advance for any answers.

Not entirely sure on this one, Clive. The up and down goods used to be a
fly-ash siding, allowing (in particular) the West Burton fly-ash wagons to
be refuged when not in use, down towards River Lane. The adjacent road (the
middle one, between platform 5 and the up/down goods) used to be used by the
Ratcliffe fly-ash for wagon inspection prior to the return run and was
accessible (as now) from the down slow via a couple of diamonds across the
March lines. I'm not entirely familiar with the arrangement since the former
fly-ash siding was connected up to the March lines to form the up/down
goods. As it is electrified I would *imagine* that there is now a connection
from the ECML, presumably from the same turnout as the adjacent road uses
and (also presumably) the electrification only stretches that far.

No, IIRC. Into Nene Sidings only.

Only to just north of Spital Bridge, where the reverse turnout that you
mention is located.

No. None at all.

Yes to your first question. The ECD I'm not sure about.

The U/D Goods is only connected to the Down March at the south end. The
middle road is formally called the "Flyash Line" and is only reached, as
you say, from the Down Slow via the crossovers. Quail shows this and
I've confirmed it in the past.
While you would expect it to be the other way round, it's clear from
photos that the U/DG is wired and the Flyash isn't. What I can't find is
a picture that goes far enough south to show where the wires end.

Thanks.

As I thought.

I've now found some relevant photos.

One would hope so, since the "E" stands for "Electrification"!
Thanks very much.

I had a look at the weekend, Clive, and they extend south of Crescent Bridge
to a point roughly parallel with the entrance to Nene Sidings.

Thanks.
Annoyingly, shortly before reading your answer I finally found a
photograph showing the same thing. It's clear that the Down March is
also wired to about the same point; I presume the Up March is as well.
That just leaves the ECD ISU - in other words, of the 8 tracks just
south of New England North Junction, which are wired:
[west, Down, side]
Down Slow - yes
Up Stamford - no
Down Fast - yes
Up Fast - yes
Up Slow - yes
Departure - yes (I'm fairly sure)
Arrival - yes (I'm fairly sure)
ECD ISU - ????
[east, Up, side]
