Avian Vet in or around Edinburgh.
Anyone know of a good vet for large exotic birds? I have two African Greys
and a Cockatoo and would like to get them a check-up.
I have been recommended:
Dick Vet
Easter Bush Veterinary Centre
Bush Farm
Roslin
EH25 9RG
Any ideas?
Ta!!!
Jim.

I'd have thought the Zoo would be a good place to ask.

I used this place a few years back when I was referred by my 'local' vet.
I'm pretty sure they are a training school, I think linked with edin uni.
Great facilities and very knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff, downside,
price! Needed a blood transfusion for my cat, coupled with an examination
and some medication, very little change from 1000! And NO, I wasn't
insured, apparently the pet insurance companies don't like to cover moggies
with unknown histories as mines was(rescued cat).

I insured my moggie from the cat & dog home with petplan. they paid out
800+ when i had to take him to the Dick vet for tests.
The cat & dog home won't tell you about the cat eitehr, so I didn't know his
history. He was about 9 months old when i got him so may be that's why I
managed to get insurance.

As an grad from the Dick who specialised in exotics, I am biased, but there
is very very good on all exotics, small furries/birds/reptiles/zoo animals.
And while I was there, they didn't go overboard on charging clients.
Otherwise Simon Girling - he was at the Braid, might have moved though, and
i don't know if they replaced him.

He's not there any more as far as I know (and I think I've
worked my way through all the vets there in the last 2 years
with my howling medical disaster of a cat).

Re: Avian Vet in or around Edinburgh.
The only vet I've met with a genuine interest and knowledge of birds is
Alistair Lawrie who practices in Falkirk and Cumbernauld.
Don't believ everything you see on the net, but...
http://www.parrot-link.co.uk/vets.htm
Is quite indicative of how many avian vets there are in Scotland.
