Windsor & Eton (no "a") is served by 450's on SWT and 165's/166's, with a
change at Slough on FGW.

> Victoria to Bromley South

When I travelled through Bromley South on the way to Margate I was on a 375.

> Waterloo to Portsmouth Harbour

444's.

If I'm wrong, I'm sure one of the more knowledgable members of the group
will correct me.

I'm pretty sure FGWL doesn't have any direct trains anymore, as it
causes big chaos on the main line (Windsor, unlike Marlow and Henley,
are on the main l ine and FGW don't want anything stopping their long
distance trains. The plan is to stop fast trains from Slough for the
next franchise).

The Slough-Windsor train (one train, bay platform at slough, single
line to windsor) is a 165 or 166, I believe it's a 165.

Dunno about the rest.

If you're lucky you could still get a 423. Otherwise, could be a
375/376 or 365/465/466.

365s have all long gone to WAGN. Are any 376s booked on the Victoria -
Bromley South line - I thought they all worked out of Charing Cross and
Cannon Street?

HSTs and Class 180s also call at Slough.

True, but they don't call at W&E!

But the OP asked for London - Windsor & Eton, therefore there is a
chance that he may travel between London & Slough on a 180 or HST, as
well as a 165/166.

HST is very unlikely - not many stop at Slough, but Class 180s do
regularly so a 180 or Turbo is quite likely.

I like that. ;-)

One correction; passengers from Staines joining services on the London
/ Windsor and Eton Riverside route would definitely be Working.

Working, not Woking. But they would be Working at Woking too, albeit
Woking is not on the same route.

Will 450s continue on the Windsor route once all the 455s are done up?
Last week I saw a 450 on the Hounslow loop, which surely won't
continue.

It's odd how SWT has replaced all slam-door stock while its suburban
stock is not all in action, but SET is still using slam-door stock
while awaiting the return of the 465/9s (not that I mind).

AFAIR the Weybridge line has been dominated by outer suburban /
mainline stock (Veps, Ceps, Junipers) for some time. Some of the
Hounslow trains go to Weybridge, so 'reducing' them to 455s would be a
downgrade for the Weybridge line residents. It does seem far enough
out to deserve outer suburban trains, but then I think the same of
some other 455-dominated routes (e.g. Cobham).

I'd better add ', Desiros' before some pedant gets on my case... :)

That's fair enough, but last week I saw a 450 doing "Hounslow via
Richmond", ie short loop back to Waterloo via Brentford.

SWT has got cover from its 458s, which it will presumably get rid of when
they go off lease/the 455s come back from refurb.

Both services on the Hounslow Loop, i.e. Waterloo-Weybridge and
Waterloo-Hounslow-Waterloo, have used 450s since the new timetable
started last December. I understand that the 1st class sections are
declassified on both services (though there is nothing to say so). Was
1st class declassified on the VEPs etc that previously served Weybridge?

It does say on the customer displays that "all seats on this train are
Standard Class" every few minutes, and I have heard some manual
announcements from guards.

400 series stock was also declassified on any SWT service where there
was no advertised 1st Class accommodation, but obviously there was no
easy way of making announcements (PA on 400s is very temperamental to
say the least!)

Yes of course (light dawns again). Now you mention it, I remember
working that out for myself one drunken evening, but then obviously
forgot that I'd worked it out once I was sober.

Oi!!! I resemble that remark!!! I'll have you know that us lot in Staines
are by no means working class!!! Lower, maybe, but definitley *not*
working!

I commute into Victoria and I've yet to see a 376 there.

I saw one parked in the Victoria depot when they were first being
introduced, but I don't know why it was there.

Last time I made this journey I changed to an HST (which was operating
an Oxford service) at Slough.

Quite disappointed actually, I was looking forward to seeing how 180s
are doing these days.
