Manchester closed this weekend?
Yes it's another weekend of closure on the Manchester Piccadilly / Stockport
lines. Some trains (Buxton, Charlie) are routed by some interesting sights
instead of direct.
Well, that was until we had the "Underneath the Arches" fire which
includes the compulsory "Gas Cylinder".

Next weekend is the biggie! Looks like nothing at all in/out of
piccadilly. TPex proper diverted via Vic, TPex Sheffields terminating
at Hazel grove with multiple onward bus options, Noerthern Sheffields,
Hadfields and Marples terminating at Guide Bridge with again plentiful
buses to picc, etc, etc.....
Should be some good rail replacement action for those of us who like
it!

Re: Manchester closed this weekend?
It was no fun being an uninformed ignorant southern punter this morning
trying to travel between Halifax and Manchester Airport (yes, I know, cheap
air tickets took me there rather than the adjacent Leeds/Bradford). The
1004 to Wakefield via Huddersfield was cancelled; Manchester Victoria were
reportedly terminating at Rochdale (no reports of bustitution) so I went to
Leeds. First (two car ) Transpennie too packed, the second had six cars but
it was on it I realised that it would be bustituted at Manchester
Piccadilly. Lucky I left so early for a 1400 plane!

Not running via the Ashburys-Vic line, then? It's been done in the
past - New Year 2001 (or was it 1999?), I think.

Hi
Not sure if the line from Guide Bridge to Ashburys isn't being dug up
too - if not it would surely be better (for non-bus-enthusiast
passengers) to run trains to Ashburys and bus from there to Picc, or
indeed as you say along that line to Vic.
Just waiting for NRE journey planner to cach up - want to know the
times for the replacement buses from Warrington to Newton-le-Willows!

Yes, I certainly remember class 150's to Victoria on the Glossop/Hadfields.

At least one 142. The squeal on the poorly-maintained tight curves
was unforgettable.

No longer being a unified, TPX and CT will probably not have any drivers who
know this route. And CT probably won't care either, since some months ago
they put on buses all the way between Liverpool and Nottingham when there
was a blockage somewhere between Chesterfield & Nottingham.

Guess what?
Stockport station evacuated due to bomb scare at about 17:30
Sunday. 17:25 Buxton - Manchester Victoria held at
Hazel Grove - much chaos everywhere else no doubt.

It wasn't fun getting around Greater Manchester this weekend if you
wanted to try a train or tram. I'd planned to go to Oldham, and had
never taken the train there- of course neither the tram or trains were
running at the time. First Buses didn't do _too_ badly getting there and
back, I have to admit.
So, I wonder what silly person left their shopping bags at Stockport?
Maybe the same one who left them in the Arndale Centre last summer, on
July 3. I remember, because we were in the Exchange Theatre where the
first act of The Importance of Being Earnest had just finished. As we
mulled around in the interval, the alarm went off, and we were all
exacuated, without coats! An hour or so of hanging around, and the
Theatre told us to go home. (Partner picked up the coats the following
Monday!) The entire centre was cordoned off, the Arndale centre
evacuated, and then some. I wouldn't want to estimate the costs of all
that- lost revenue, helicopters (yes, more than one!) circling overhead,
etc.

The new Siemens TPX depot at Ardwick is being connected in at Ardwick
Junction and Ashburys West so the line to Victoria probably isn't
available . A bus pick up point and turning circle has been
constructed at Guide bridge , in the "car park" maybe GB to Picc , can
be permanently bustituted?

I doubt it. Traffic would be too bad.
