Rick Stein
# While I would rather Chirac was drinking a good English beer (I can suggest
# a few if RS wants some pointers ;-) ) Stein would never have thought of
# doing it, and I must say that Jack C has gone up in my estimation, he wanted
# beer so he had beer, even if RS is so far up himself that he hasn't realised
# what home grown gems are produced on these shores.

I think it's you that might be 'up yourself'. I get the feeling that Mr Stein
is rather fond of beer. One of his programs saw him coocking with and
evangelising about real ale made in Suffolk. Can't remember the brewer off
hand. I'm sure real ale has occured from time to time in his other programs
too.

Suffolk has a good brewing tradition. There are currently 13 brewers.

ERM no, while he may have used beer in some of his programs, to be critical
of someone choosing beer over wine shows a certain narrowness of opinion.
I.E. beer should know its place, he was way off message with his dismissal
of a good lager beer with the lobster, a fine combination.
Beer can match (or even beat) wine with food in many cases - as the US
brewer and writer Garrett Oliver has shown in several "taste offs" with top
chefs and food writers.

Couldn't help laughing at the fact that he snubbed a 150 per bottle wine
from FRANCE for the GERMAN beer, hmmm, could it be a case of subliminal
truths about the power structure of Europe sneaking out by the glassfull? We
should be told...
