Glasgow Central low level line
For those who consider the right to roam more compelling that the
wording of notices, there is at the moment an opportunity to inspect
the trackbed and tunnel entrance of the former Caledonian Railway at
Partick (near Safeway) - Castlebank Street.
Demolition of the embankment to the west of Partick is now almost
complete. This seems somewhat curious since the City Council are
supposedly investigating public transport options for the Glasgpw
Harbour development.

They certainly didn't waste any time in getting rid of the old
railway and cycle path at the Thornwood roundabout. On Sunday
a family with young children on bicycles were left flummoxed at
the South Street/Hayburn Street corner when the "replacement"
path and signage just petered out. They were completely lost.

More bizarrely they left it for 40 years then removed it before the
study was completed.

There was still a single line on it in 1976, as shown above. It was there to
service
the car plant in the background, I think.

Where is that? Is it the end of South Street approaching Clydebank?

Yes. The bridge is over Dumbarton Road at the Burnham Road/Plean
Street corner in Scotstoun, and the road going off to the left just
above the shunter is Kingsway.

That photo has a marvellous atmosphere! A Class 08 on a trip working,
complete with guard's van - roads and pavements of exceptional width -
the cranes along the Clyde in the background. Thanks for sharing it,
James!
