Collectors Corner
Interesting photo I scanned in for my dad - remember going up to CC with my
dad in the 1980s - I wonder how much those totems are worth now? Anybody
know when it closed down?

I don't know when it closed but on my last visit I bought a pack of APT
playing cards (Still unopened). Two weeks ago I bought another set of
Playing Cards on a Pendolino, unfortunately they are Virgin branded and not
as I wanted "Pendolino" branded.

I can remember a small "Collectors Corner" being at Carnforth after Euston
closed.

It's been gone for some time now but if you search the web for
"railway auctions" you'll find that totems are now a type of precious
metal. Unbent examples can be worth hundreds and four figure sums have
IIRC already been paid.

Totems (in really nice condition) range in value from around GBP250.00 up to
several thousands depending upon rarity and desirability.

I assume your picture is of the old CC in Euston? It was supplemented by
one in York station which also closed. A few years past another attempt at
selling railway ephemera was made in a shop in Rougier Street operated by
NRS. This closed two or three years back and its former manager opened a
stall selling similar items in an indoor market nearby. I'm informed this
business is now in difficulty and the operator has allegedly disappeared.

It closed in either 1998 or 1999, probably the former. I was there on
the last Saturday it was open.

I too have the APT cards - plus a set of French TGV cards. When I manage
to lay hands on them, I'll post a scan of them somewhere.

Yes, that's the Euston shop. My dad got a totem for Gerrards X, Denham and
West Ruislip but sold them on several years later (might have seemed like a
lot of dosh at the time but nothing by today's standards).
