Duke of Gloucester -London to Exeter
Anyone got any ideas to view this loco on its run tomorrow in the
yeovil area.
On the way back to London (from Yeovil Junction) it has a good climb
east of Sherborne in the early evening, but I was wondering about a
good vantage point as it heads down to Exeter. There is the amazing
straight run ( about 3 miles I think is visible) up to Templecombe
viewed from the footbridge there but I am sure trains normally have to
slow in to the station itself. Does it have a good climb somewhere
down near Honiton?
Thanks Robin

I have some fairly fast down runs through Templecombe on non stop service
trains in the past. I think it depends on whether the train is signalled on
to the down or reversible line at the end of the single track section.

It's up hill from Axminster to Honiton Tunnel, so the overbridge just east
of Honiton Tunnel should have an impressive view of it. It's at grid
reference ST 201 010, near Higher Cleave.

Thanks Chris for that-noted for the future. In the end I went to
Sherborne and it really flew through bang on time. A lone diesel crept
along behind...
