How much will it cost to close a railway station?
I ask the question because having read some of the messages about the West
Midlands RUS, and the news in the last but one Modern Railways that the DfT
is advertising for a Closures Manager, everyone's fears or prophecies about
stations being closed may start to ring true.
So with that in mind, if a station is to close what is the costs associated
with doing? Physical, and administrative? Anyone know or know where
figures have been published.

Re: How much will it cost to close a railway station?
I think it will vary greatly. Are we talking about just a station
closure, or the closure of the line to passengers, or the total closure
of the line? Will alternative means of transport have to be provided?
Will the land remain in railway ownership, or can it be sold off? How
much objection will there be, it will take a lot of paperwork to deal
with this.
I've never seen anything published, except for the costs of running the
service proposed for closure, and those costs were often highly suspect
in the past.
