Norfolk Railways
I had a look at some of the Norfolk steam railways last week. The
Poppy Line at Sheringham was interesting as the City of Truro was the
guest train and she does about 5 trips about and down the rather
disappointingly short length up to Holt. It really is a gentle puff up
the hill from Sheringham and had I had more time I would have liked to
have seen her in action from off the train. As it was, lots of infants
etc rather drowned the sounds from inside! The mini guage Wells to
Walsingham was great fun and perhaps the best of all-distinctly rough
ride, but nice to sit in the open. The track is just about visible with
a lot of grass between the rails- and some excellent embankments with
a nice pub for lunch at the end down at Great Walsingham. The Bure
Valley run was surprisingly brisk-the loco really got quite a speed
up. But it is pretty flat all the way. Views were a bit disappointing.

I gather Sheringham is hoping to link up with the mainline- it is very
close indeed!

As I drove back I saw, just around King's Lynn(heading towards
Wisbech) a very straight section of disused track ( but with rails
intact) running due east (?) from the road. I should be interested to
learn what it is and why it is still there as it were

Cheers Robin

Yes-just checked on the map. The rails were visibile-just!
Somewhere else in the area I went across a former level crossing,
rails in situ left and right but had been tarmaced over on the
road-and that looked pretty recent.

Sounds like the Wisbech by-pass - the remains of the March - Wisbech line
(the proposed Bramley line).

Thank you. I was going to post a massage asking about Norfolk steam
railways but you've just answered my question.

Doesn't that apply to Norfolk as a whole? Ditto Suffolk. Ditto Finland but
the latter *does* have pretty lakes in amongst the forests.

A couple of questions. How do I stop the wires short-circuiting, and what's
this nylon washer for?
