It was a lineside fire at Pilning, which damaged some signalling
cables, which in turn knocked out at least two signals.  Trains are
now passing, but the long block section created by the defective
signals (and the need to caution drivers before entering it) has
reduced capacity.  Some freight services have been diverted via
Gloucester.
