Central Trains - Over 50's
The "Central Trains - Over 50's" genorous offer gives a fare of 10 for a
Manchester to Peterborough Period Return. Route = Any permitted.
When I check for times on "National Rail Enquiries" website it gives (as
well as Central direct service) route via leeds using TPX & GNER.
The question is... Would it be possible to go via Leeds and retun via
Nuneaton? It would make a nice (circular) day out.
I have previosly done the Manchester - Nottingham outward direct and return
via Stoke for a Fiver.

Going via Leeds? It seems so, using maps ER+WK+TP. Although this seems
very unfair on GNER, having to accept such a cheap ticket on their
route. But it does *seem* to be allowed, unless there's something I've
missed.

The unfairness of it all struck me. I would have thought that a "Central
Cheap Deal" would have been restricted not "Any Permitted"..

Looking at the form you have to print off and fill in, the only route
restrictions are:
Lincoln to Cardiff - Route not valid via London
Liverpool to Sheffield Route valid via Stockport
Sheffield to Cardiff Route not valid via London
Sheffield to Liverpool Route valid via Stockport
Sheffield to Warrington (Day and Period Return) Route valid via Stockport

I have a friend who did Peterborough to Manchester via GNER to Leeds
in June. He then told me on 4th July that GNER had decided to ban
Central's Flat Savers on Pboro - Leeds and on 7th July that GNER
Senior Managers had decided to lift the ban.
On this basis you should be able to do Manchester to Peterboroutgh via
Leeds. Whether you can return via Nuneaton I am not sure. I have given
up trying to understand the routing guide.

I did the Leeds - Peterborough by GNER on 4th July on one of these tickets
(started from Liverpool, actually). The gripper queried it but, as he
couldn't find the terms and conditions on his mobile equipment, he didn't
make too much of an issue about it. I think he went away to check and never
returned. On another date, on the northward journey, the gripperess looked
at my ticket, clipped it, moved to the next seating bay and and then halted
in her track to enquire "Did that say Liverpool Street?". I think she was
going to suggest that de-training at Doncaster might be a good idea.
Otherwise, no problems at all from Arriva Trains Wales, Northern, Virgin and
TransPennine Express.
I've checked the routing guide - Peterborough to Manchester via Nuneaton is
permissable using BP+MA
Make hay while the sun shines - I've visited Peterborough four times,
Leicester once and Lincoln once using as many route combinations and TOCs as
allowed by the conditions and even travelled on Central Trains occasionally!

Unfortunate choice of Stockport as routing point: rules out
weekend travel at the moment!

I've been making the most of the offer as well. Birmingham (twice),
Manchester, Cardiff and Leicester so far.

Thanks for the comments Neville,
Indeed, all you nearly and actual Owd Buggers get out there 'cos
it is only on for another week!
I've only done the Man to Notts round trip up to now.
