Harrington Tanner Hop
Harrington Tanner Hop
T'wuzn't just Harri'ton, with the river running through it.
With the pier and the shore line and the houses up on't top
With yan school for t'Catholics and yan for t'Protestants
And a lemonade in't smug, when our Mams and Dads felt hot
Oh no, there wuz much more thun that on Eadie Street's left corner
Not only did the Primrose bloom, up on Copras Hill
But quite a few fine flowers danced, then shed their delicate petals
In their young fresh foliage years, at Harri'ton Tanner Hop.

Very nice Edith...
One of my earliest memories is of gazing out of the train window,
as my nana Sowerby took me to my auntie Rena's house at Whitehaven.
I can still see in my mind's eye those primroses along the banks,
from behind the cemetery, down Copperas Hill, and in the deep cutting
further south towards Micklam.

Thank you Russell. I believe you and I have many of the same fine memories
of the area. Worthy memories. It's a good feeling. I used to pick Primroses
on those banks and a little further south too, and when I looked up I could
see Mrs (I've forgotten her name) a teacher from Victoria School who taught
English and had a son called Roland. Your Mam would kow her. Her cottage was
just passed a pub up there. Can you remember the name of it. ? It was along
the Charity, I think, or further down somewhere. I can'r remember how I got
there.
I see I've made a couple of mistakes. Been away too long, Russ. I'll just
fix them. See if you can spot the difference.
Edith.
