TDI Issues...
Hello all, I have a small TDI engine problem, wondered if anybody else
had experienced similar from VW 2.0 TDI 140bhp (Touran).

It idles very lumpy (Worse when warm), hesitates under acceleration and
hesitates after changing gear (Badly) and seems to be slightly down on
power.

The car has covered just short of 13k - it's 19months old and is 2000
miles away from it's first service. (Variable service) and is a manual.

Any help or comments appreciated, even sarcastic one's, they make me laugh.

I'd start by checking for air leaks and throwing some injector cleaner at
it, I think. But then what do I know about diesels?

Well, funny you should say that, cos thats exactly what I was thinking,
blocked injectors or Blocked Air filter...

It's under warranty obviously, I will go and make a small scene in front
of somebody about to buy a new one in the showroom, that always
motivates them to sort the problem. :)

Sounds like stuck open EGR valve to me, exactly the right symptoms.

Surprised you havent got the MIL on though.

I'm not.
Had a couple galaxy's towed in with failed EGR valves. ECU hasn't even
noticed a thing wrong, despite the fact the EGR is jammed wide open.

VW seem to utilise the Ford school off self diagnosis, whereby provided the
engine still runs (regardless off the fact it's revving it's balls off for
no reason, won't idle worth a monkey, got that little power you'd be better
off getting out and pushing it up the hill, running rough.....basically not
working how it should), you don't get the ECU to recognise a fault and put
the MIL on.
You only put the MIL on, once the engine has actually ground to a halt.

It normally accelerates with a real kick in the back, if you know what I
mean, that just isn't there! - And the overall power is down as if it's
'leaking' out somewhere.

I am worried about the idle thing though...

Does that make sense ?

I didn't read the age of the car properly, as is the norm for newsgroups, so
I didn't notice that it's only 13k old. Might be the air filter then.

Or gets you thrown out and told in no uncertain terms to go forth and
multiply.

Definatly stuck open EGR.

Go back to the dealer and complain like merry hell. Expect a loaner whilst
yours is being fixed. Expect yours to be fully cleaned too. VW will be
paying on this new car too.
