The Poor Law
http://www.institutions.org.uk/counties/ENG/hampshire.htm
Cumbria.

Oh dear me. I was looking for Hampshire and I came across this "Poor Law"
thingie. It was true then, what me Mam said :-

"You'll end up in the workhouse if you don't behave yourself, young
lady."and all that time I held a fear for this unknown monstrosity and with
good reason I now believe, yet, sheared clear of an ended poque.

Dark memories emerge. My father and I standing at a large wooden door with
something for someone, a relative locked in behind then, delivered thro,
perhaps a small cake, then on back home. I remember. Feeling sad and a
little frightened.

Edith, just caught the back end of "The Terrible Years." - and dashed with
eager, unknowingly and unprotected, into "The Good Years."

Edith.

Oh the good years, full of fun
Seems to be the idea.

On Sun, 3 Jul 2005 11:49:57 +0200, whilst Carstairs had his head
thrust between the maids thighs a note arrived from our good buddy
"The Traveller" .
As Caruthers did not hear the bell, I answered it.
