Engine Oil Consumption
Hi all!
I have a Rover 416 Gti, from 1993.
It has 245000 km ( 156000 miles ).
It now consumes a lot of Oil.
I went with it to Rover and they said that the best thing to do is
open the engine.
I've noticed that the car heats more than a few time ago. The
Temperature Sensor indicates most of the times that it is on Normal
state.
The Water consumption is Ok.
I've tryed some different kinds of Engine Oil, but with no success.
I've also added an aditive to the Engine Oil to clean the Engine, but
with no success.
Any ideas/suggestions to resolve this problem?
Thanks a lot in advance.
Best regards,
Joaquim.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Do you mean open it up to look inside,
or open the throttle and drive it hard?

You say that you notice the car heats more than it did, but the temperature
sensor is on normal. Do you mean the *car* or the *engine*? And if you mean
the engine, why are you saying it heats more than it did despite the fact
that the temperature sensor says it's normal?

Re: Engine Oil Consumption
When you say a lot of oil, how much are we talking about? I am sure that you
verified that is not leaking. A defect in the crank case ventilation system
can cause excessive oil consumption.

More than likely your engine is well worn and needs an overhaul if you can
justify it or scrapping if you can't.
A good economical alternative is to find an used engine from a similar car
that has been scrapped due to accident or other reason.
