Yesterday I travelled on a Virgin service from Warrington to Preston (1st.
stop). When approaching Preston an on board anouncement stated "change at
Preston for Wigan". A doubleback of route!

I want to leave crewe around 7pm. I cannot guarantee catching a scheduled
train so a seat reservation would be pointless, so which is the quietest

Manchester to London / Birmingham

On Monday this was a 90+Mk3s - one of the rakes with a single 1st carriage
at the front - anyone know if this is now the norm? Normal pendo schedule
gives 46min non-stop to Euston. We managed it in 48, so not so bad ...

I'm having trouble finding anything that stops there directly from Waterloo,
but I wonder if any 'local' services stop there regularly. I could then go
to Southampton or somewhere and change trains ...

Well, it might not be much use for those making the larger proportion
of Journeys from stations on the High Wycombe line, but since the line
through Gerrards X has been closed, services from Aylesbury have
improved massively ...
