Daylight flight between LHR and LAX

Hi,
I am a practicing Orthodox Jew and wish to travel form LHR to LAX on
Friday 8 February 2008.
There is a BA flight round about 10am & a Virgin flight at 11.30am.
The flying time is just over 11 hours.
If I catch either of these flights I will arrive in LAX well before
the Sabbath commences in LAX. However ...

try online check-in. It looks like you can't do this unless you book a

I live near Yeovilton. I've just seen what I initially took to be a C130
but then realised it was a twin so I now think it was probably a C27. It
was heading vaguely in the direction of Boscombe or Lyneham at a guess at an
altitude of maybe 2-3k.
