I'd like to understand the routing involved in connecting from my mobile
phone to an 0870 number. My belief is as follows:
My mobile connects to the local (Orange) mast which routes the signal
to the local Orange digital switch via copper/fibre. This switch
recognises that I want a landline so it connects me to ...

Returning to the telecoms workplace after 7 years self employment

engineer.

I've now become fed up with my ageing set of four BT Equinox 1000
handsets. The buttons stick, they decide to issue the "recharging"
sound in the middle of the night, and although phonebook entries can
be pushed to other handsets on the network, the process is primitive -
e.g. with four handsets, a new entry added ...

Hi,
Am I right in thinking crossbar exchanges, say circa 1985 were strowger or
would these have been some osrt of electronic exchange, i.e. txe2 ??
Portslade was the one in mind.
And if im on the right track, didn't they have a different ringing cadence
something to do with PBX's grabbing the line to soon?
