9 07941 dialled by mistake

I dialed a mobile number this evening (from my BT landline) beginning with 07941. Forgetting that I wasn't in the office, I dialed 9 first for an outside line. I got something saying "congratulations, you've won some T-Mobile competition or other" at which point I instinctively hung up to avoid a premium rate charge ...

A friend is experiencing problems with being charged for very long
calls which they didn't make. On investigation it seems that their
phone is not being disconnected from the line at the end of some
calls. The result seems to be that BT continues to charge the (now

Why don't phones beep nowadays when they are recording a call?
I thought phones had to make a beep approx every 15 seconds if they
were recording a call.
(I mean home phones not a commercial switchboard.) ...
