Incredible scenes here, sirens can be heard everywhere. I have footage
of the funnel cloud. Rain has now stopped, but at one point the High
Street turned into a river. The storm is heading off NE towards
Highgate.

Penzance dry - Sunny Afternoon
Sun, 31 Aug 2008 08:36:26 -0700 (PDT)
Periods of strong sunshine this afternoon, not yesterday's hazy murky
sticky stuff, nice fresh feel in the breeze.
Sharp shadows & intense colouring for a change www.easterling.freeserve.co.uk/CC.html
Scilly easily visible from the Penwith Moors, visibility well over 30
miles. Best conditions for appreciating th ...

No sunshine in Leeds
Sun, 31 Aug 2008 15:42:14 +0100
It may have been warm, but over the last 6 days in the west of
leeds -Farsley we have had 1.5 hours of sunshine. A cloudy spell in August
with 3 days with no sunshine at all must be unprecidented. I'm waithing for
the cooler fresher weather so that we get a chance of seeing some sunshine!
August's total sunsh ...

Cricket and Sir Ian
Sun, 31 Aug 2008 07:11:50 -0700 (PDT)
Ian Botham at Lords just said (words more or less correct):
"The sun's out and it's heating up. Hope that doesn't trigger
thunderstorms. It's very humid".
I have previously heard Ian make some of the better and more informed
comments about cricket weather and has avoided drawing the all-too-
often erroneous ...

No storms for Essex
Sun, 31 Aug 2008 15:07:43 +0100
Looks like in Basildon we have missed out again, very lively radar images to
our south over Kent this morning, but nothing crossing the Thames other than
a few spots this morning and some light rain at present.
It seems that most of the activity is now heading northwards.
Regards.

Sun, 31 Aug 2008 13:01:41 +0100
Other than a slither of blue to the extreme southeast,
the sky is cloaked in rather bland medium level cloud,
lacking the dark bases and tall turrets seen pre-0900Z.
Outbreaks of mainly slight rain this morning with a short
moderate burst around 0630Z, yielding just 0.6mm.
Fog patches to our northwest lifted into ...

Pleasant morning after misty start. Now 20C with bright periods. No rain or
T/S so far despite forecasts, which have been pretty poor for here, really,
over the last week.

Poor summer weather continuing into September - when did it last
happen?
Sun, 31 Aug 2008 02:40:55 -0700 (PDT)
Though there seem to be signs from the models of settling down in the
second week and towards mid month, I can't remember a previous
occasion when a disappointing summer continued into the first week of
September - most of the disappointing summers I remember (e.g.
1985-1988, 1992) were followed in southern Englan ...
