Newton Heath Trip 1971

In a trip working booklet that I have, dated 1971, it mentions a trip
that used to, "Shunt Newton Heath Diesel Depot and Trip as required to
Newton Carriage Sidings and Brewery Sidings".
I can't for the life of me think, with any certainty, where Newton

LA train crash due to push/pull?

I'm wondering if the result of the LA train crash was due to the
consist being loco-pushed from the rear? I have always been nervous of
this kind of operation. I remember the Gatwick Express used to be push/
pulled. As are (were?) many Intercity trains out of Euston. Also
including many commuter trains in the USA. ...

Just returned from Paris after a week long holiday in France. Ticket
was exchanged within seconds of arriving in the station. Eurostar
staff were very friendly and were stood waiting for passengers at the
bottom of the escalators before you check in. No messing about with
computers and rebooking, they just checked ...

New Tickets - SWT style

So I went to the ticket office and asked the guy for an Off peak period
return to X (with my network card).
When I got it I said:
"What do you call this now".
He said "it's a 'Saver'".
"Oh, hasn't the name changed then?",
"Yes, but we're still calling them savers"
What was the point?

Remember that the NR/ATOC T&C for 'Off Peak' implied that BOJ would now be
allowed on the outward leg of a return "unless restricted for the journey
you are making". Barry Salter thought that only NXEC would make use of this
restriction.

Catching the train from Gatwick Airport to Plymouth query

If my plane lands at Gatwick (north terminal) at 9.15am on a Sunday
morning, what sort of time should I be booking my train for?
And if it's an advance ticket is there any flexibility if the plane is
late? Can I catch any FGW service, or must it be the one that I get my
reservation with?
