Our love affair with the train (BBC Radio 4 this evening)     Fri, 19 Sep 2008 13:48:20 -0700 (PDT)
'A Point of View', 20:50-21:00 Radio 4 this evening featured Lisa Jardine contrasting travel by train with other methods. Somewhat off- topic for both of these groups as she speaks mainly of her experiences in Holland, but may be of interest. A transcript, and audio stream are available here: http://news.bbc. ...

Timetable Supplements ?     Fri, 19 Sep 2008 21:34:38 +0100
The printed NRTT contained weekend times only until September for Table 65 (WCML) & some other tables. The on-line pdf version (National Rail site) still has this same version of Table 65, whilst the only "update" file available seems to be a June Supplement, which also contains nothing for the September - Dece ...

Avantix codes for U12 etc     Fri, 19 Sep 2008 18:56:46 +0100
I looked for a (single) fare from Gatwick to Waterloo East, and Avantix he say ¡ê11.10 [not Gatex]. Having arrived at Gatwick there was an impressively confusing screen on the ticket machine, and that's without the added complication of wanting a single (machines in general seem highly biassed towards returns) ...

East Midlands Parkway, and Winter Timetable     Fri, 19 Sep 2008 15:16:10 +0100
I drove past the other day, and it's still a building site. Couldn't see the lineside aspects but the access road isn't finished yet. Only 12 weeks to go to the Winter timetable (due online shortly presumably - they claim 12 weeks and are showing services up to the 11th December currently). Must have a loo ...
