What Benefits Available?

Hi all
Can anyone advise on what benefits are likely to be available and whether
they are means tested please?
Family of 4.
I am principle earner, with wife also working - approx 33/18k resp.
If I come out of work, my wife would need to do extra shifts to meet
outgoings - mortgage, bills etc.

March 2007.
After waiting for just over a year, my complaint to the Independent Case
Examiner has been upheld. Maladministration (which the DWP already

If I took a part time job that was say 15-20 hour per week seems to be quite
a few PT / Jobs any not many full time jobs around where I live could I
still get some help with housing costs as the wage it self would not cover

A jobseeker is required by law to look for work within 1.5 hours travelling
distance from home. No fuckin expenses at all

Proof of Unemployment - how do I get this?

I am occasionally asked for Proof of Unemployment or Proof of Disability (I
hold a Blue Badge)
I tried through the Jobs Centre to get Proof of being unemployed but as I
didn't want to claim benefits, several weeks of paperwork and interviews got
me no where
same thing with Proof of Disability

Working on Income support

I have a friend who is on income support and disability living
alloweance I think its called at the middle and lower rate (not sure
what that bit means) due to having a severe mental illness.
He's having a good crack at getting his life together and wants to start
working a bit to gain some self esteem and back ...
