lentils balls?

last week i ate in an indian restaurant in berlin on a business
trip. the starter i had was new to me and absolutely delicious.
it was little balls of lentils & some chick peas covered in loads
of yoghurt/raita and little bits of tamarind sauce. the dish was
hardly warm and very refreshing.

I eat (or rather have eaten) a lot of Indian/Pakistani/Bnagladeshi food
- but need to cut down on cholesterol and saturated fat. Does this rule
out most restaurants and is it possible to ask for foood to be cooked
wihout ghee and other bad stuff?

I've noticed recently that whenever I include galangal in my
Thai curries, I suffer from severe diarrhoea & uncontrollable
flatulence for days afterwards.
Is this common? Does anyone else here experience this?
